Round 2 vs Frankston

Sunny ☀️day!

A nice cup of coffee ☕️/toast and NO laundromat needed 👏

(See rd 1 report ) 🤭

21 spare jumpers clean and ready to fill 🤞high hopes indeed . Not quite but we did get four new players playing their first 🥇 game for the club (Craig/Damien/Hakan /Boris – 👏welcome to the Warriors family.

With the return of expatriates Harley /Matty A/ Blake/Kimmy and

second gamers 2026  Luke and Gavin, plus the numerous Warriors that came to play (you know who you are ), the team board was full!🍿

24 players! (35s club record)🤔

After meeting the umpires in the rooms and chatting with one of them who I knew from the past (I may never talk to him again 🤦‍♂️🤣), it was time to gather onto the ground for our Anzac Day tribute. Both teams lined up opposite each other in silence 🤫 with pride and thanks to our courageous Anzacs.

This was handled very well by the club and all around the ground – congratulations.

Time for the toss.

With our captain Junior watching on helplessly the coin went up and the Frankston captian called heads (correctly) ☹️.

1st Quarter:  Frankston kicked with a breeze (slight ) and used it well and within the time frame allotted opened up a five goal lead with our boys working hard, but the pattern of letting teams get a start was appearing again. With Junior running hard through mid with Jeff and Obie alongside and Blake and Matty D in back we had hope of a better quarter to come .

After taking the boys into the shade for quarter time Pete and I checked the board and made a few adjustments and a quick chat.

2nd quarter

With the aid of the breeze (ever so slight )  we were expecting a bit better performance to give our forwards some hope but it was not forthcoming. With players still trying hard but being outplayed by a hard/quick opposition (well drilled) things weren’t running well. Magnets were being shuffled madly by Peter 🤪and Kaine throughout the quarter. A few players looked ginger and frustrated etc but the highlights being the effort of Harley and the body ( wasn’t really two shirtfronts!) work of big Matty A at full back 👏

Siren half time

Breather had.

Magnets moved.

Players addressed.

Quarter 3

With the players shuffled and spoken to about the way we were playing (not about their endeavours) off we went.

Once again the ball was quickly taken out of our control and Frankston was still running hard and the teamwork and skill was showing to be a step ahead of our boys (work to be done on our poise and skills at training).

The quarter was lost.

At 3 quarter time Theo took the backline, Junior/ Peter the mids and myself, the rest. This was good to see and will be done more often with single coaching to players in the future as well (teaching and learning).

Final quarter

Unfortunately, as in the past (recently), we lost two players. Warriors curse ? I’m not convinced yet .

Brendan broke his wrist. And then Harley late in the game hurt his ankle, possible break. With both these warriors badly missed and Jamie bloody, it was gonna be hard to hold off Frankston.

This proved to be the case and they went on a tear, players lining up to kick goals (8) with 12 goal kickers for the game.

With Junior joining the list of injuries (calf – hopefully just first game cramping), the game was done ✅

Quick summary

Well done to all the first gamers. Special mention to the backline:

Matty D worked tirelessly. Blake had a great first run.

Jamie worked super hard, and Matty A was a warrior.

And Eddy (wing ) we thank for his leadership and run with role.

Plus all you great players that filled in on field and off (too many names!) – cheers! 🍻

Without you we don’t survive.

Please everyone stick together and success will come – it starts with mateship and understanding.
